Project Description
Tucked away in the historic Trestle Glen neighborhood, a couple sought to increase the usability of their backyard in a way that would be child and pet friendly, with the capacity to evolve over time. The yard was divided into two primary levels, defined by a rustic fieldstone retaining wall. The lower patio in dimensional blue stone provides a spacious, open layout for flexible furnishing, outdoor cooking, and lounging.
A gentle stair transition ascends to an intimately scaled gathering area, accented with basalt cobblestone. Here, the garden opens up to a grass area surrounded by a medley of pollinator-friendly and edible plants. This provides a soft, level surface for kids to play in a natural setting.
The low, open fence style, was developed for safety, while preserving visibilty and an overall natural aesthetic. Custom brackets protect the longevity of the wood posts while keeping them visually concealed. These were also used for a cedar entry gate for a welcoming entry into the garden.
